ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Lab Technician role is a full-time (40 hours per week) three (3)-month temporary position with potential to extend month to month or quarterly following the first three months. As a Lab Technician, you will be primarily responsible for supporting the synthesis of chemical compounds to support the Company’s drug development initiatives. This is a hands-on role with a focus on compound weighing and preparation, as well as supporting general lab operations. The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge drug discovery research, while gaining valuable experience in a fast-paced and innovative laboratory environment. This role is on-site and based in Santa Cruz, CA.
REPONSIBILITIES:
Synthesis Support (90%):
- Weigh and aliquot compounds, monomers, and reagents in preparation for peptide synthesis.
- Assist in labeling and organizing vials and chemicals for use in synthesis processes.
- Prepare materials for analysis and testing, ensuring proper handling and safety protocols.
Lab Administration & Support (10%):
- Restock and reorder laboratory supplies to ensure smooth operation of daily activities.
- Track inventory of chemicals, reagents, and maintain accurate records, including in the Company’s chemical inventory system.
- Assist with maintaining a clean and organized laboratory environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma with 2+ years of relevant laboratory or industry experience, OR Associate’s Degree with 1+ years of relevant laboratory or industry experience.
- At least 1 year of experience working in a chemistry-centric laboratory or research setting.
- Demonstrated experience of being highly organized with a strong attention to detail.
- Works with urgency and is a self-starter.
- Must be able and willing to work in our office five days a week.
- Due to the nature of the work in our labs, it is mandatory to wear personal protective equipment. The Lab Technician must be comfortable working in a controlled environment or an environment that requires personal protective equipment, including gloves, lab coats and safety goggles.
- There is a risk of potential exposure to chemicals and biohazards. This position requires regular work in a laboratory environment where chemicals and biohazardous materials are used.
- Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, and crouch to reach, lift, retrieve, and store materials.
- Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds is required.
COMPENSATION:
The hourly pay range for this role is $30-50/hour. Exact title and hourly rate will be based on our assessment of the candidate's skills and experience, relevant to our needs for the role.
